A Frame.io alternative

Client approvals, inside your project board.

Skybase is project management with client approvals built into each job, video included: free for up to 5 users, then $39.90 per user per year. Frame.io Pro is $156.00 per member a year, for up to 5 members.

Every plan, side by side

Frame.io charges per member, billed yearly, with a cap on each self-serve plan: up to 5 members on Pro. Skybase bills per user, with no cap. Both are shown for a year, billed yearly, in US dollars, and each Frame.io figure links to the page it comes from.

  • Skybase costs nothing up to 5 users. Past 5 users, Pro bills every user, not just the extra ones.
  • US dollars on both sides, billed yearly, excluding tax: Frame.io lists its prices “per year + tax”. Checked on 5 November 2026.

How each asks for sign-off

Both send work to people outside your team for review. Frame.io's side is from its own pages.

Skybase

Ask for approval on any job: choose the files, name who approves and set a due date. Each approver reviews from their own link in the email without signing in, pins comments on images, PDF pages and video, and chooses Approve, Approve with changes or Request changes. Reminders go out on their own, a new version asks again, and your team can check the work before the client is asked.

Frame.io

Its help centre says each file has a Status, set to Needs Review, In Progress or Approved: “Once you select one of these labels, a notification will be sent to all the project users.” People outside your account review “via Share links, which don't require them to sign up or log in”.

The approval sits on the job

In Skybase, files are signed off on the job they belong to, beside its tasks, comments and due date, so nothing is copied between a proofing tool and a project tool. Everything is on every plan, the Free plan included.

What reviewers and clients cost

Neither charges for the people who only review. The difference is what they join.

Skybase

An approver from the client joins your workspace as a single-project guest, free on either plan, and reviews from the link in each email. They see that project and the people on it, and can comment, upload and approve the work they're asked to approve. Add the same person to a second project and they count as a user.

Frame.io

Frame.io shares work with people outside your account for free “via Share links, which don't require them to sign up or log in”, and says “Users that you have sent or added to a Share will be visible as a Reviewer in your account.”

What Frame.io does that Skybase doesn't

A dedicated proofing tool goes further on review. If your team relies on any of these, Skybase isn't the right fit today.

  • “Camera to Cloud”, on the Free plan and so on every plan (“Everything in Free, plus”). Skybase takes the files you upload.
  • A “Premiere integration” and a “Final Cut Pro integration”. Skybase connects Slack and GitHub, not editing apps.
  • “Transcription and captions”, on the Free plan and every plan above it. Skybase doesn't transcribe video.
  • “Frame-accurate & range-based comments”. A Skybase comment on a video marks one moment, not a range.
  • Watermarking: “One static watermark template” on Pro, and “Unlimited watermarking templates” on Enterprise. Skybase doesn't watermark files.
  • “Passphrase-protected shares”, “Share link expiration” and “Custom-branded shares” on Pro. Skybase's review links expire on their own and can ask each approver for a code sent to their email; it has no custom branding.
  • A “Frame.io iOS app”. Skybase works in the browser, on a phone too.
  • “2 TB included + 2TB per additional member” on Pro, and “250GB Mounted Storage”, where Skybase Pro has 100 GB.
  • “Single sign-on” on Enterprise. Skybase has Sign in with Google, and no SAML.

Starting with your next project

There's no importer for Frame.io, so you start fresh. Finish the reviews already running there, and start the next piece of client work in Skybase.

  1. 1 Create a project for the client, and add the work as jobs with due dates.
  2. 2 Invite your team as team members.
  3. 3 Invite the client to the project as a single-project guest. It's free.
  4. 4 On a job, ask for approval: choose the files, name the approvers and set a due date. Each approver gets their own link by email.
  5. 5 When the next version is ready, add it to the same approval, and everyone is asked again.

FAQ

Common questions

Billing questions are on the pricing page. Anything else, email support@skybase.it.

Is Skybase cheaper than Frame.io?
For teams of 3 to 15, yes, at list prices billed yearly and checked on 5 November 2026. Frame.io Pro is $156.00 per member a year for up to 5 members, and Skybase Pro is $39.90 per user per year. For a team of 10, that's $399.00 on Skybase against $2,640.00 on Frame.io Team: 84% less. Both are free for the smallest teams: Skybase for up to 5 users, Frame.io for up to 2 members. Above 15 members, Frame.io is priced by quote.
Do reviewers and clients cost extra?
Not on either. On Skybase, a client on one project is a free single-project guest, on either plan. Frame.io shares work with people outside your account “via Share links, which don't require them to sign up or log in”.
Can clients review video in Skybase?
Yes. Add a cut to a job and ask for approval. Each approver watches it from their own link in the email without signing in, pins a comment on a paused frame at that moment, and chooses Approve, Approve with changes or Request changes. Put two cuts side by side to see what changed, and upload the next version to ask everyone again.
Can I import my projects from Frame.io?
No. There's no importer for Frame.io, so you start with your next piece of client work. Finish the reviews already running there, and start the next one in Skybase.
What does Frame.io do that Skybase doesn't?
It has “Camera to Cloud”, a “Premiere integration” and a “Final Cut Pro integration”, “Transcription and captions”, “Frame-accurate & range-based comments”, watermarking, passphrase-protected and custom-branded shares, an iOS app, and more storage. If your team relies on any of these, check which Frame.io plans include them on its pricing page.
Are these prices in my currency?
No. Both are in US dollars (Frame.io's pricing page reads its prices out in “dollars”), billed yearly and excluding tax: it lists them “per year + tax”. Prices in other currencies, tax and any discounts differ.
